The Walkable Apartment in Batu Bolong That Skips the Scooter

Quiet lane near Aster Apartment leading toward Batu Bolong Beach

A walkable apartment in Batu Bolong, Canggu, changes how much of your day goes to getting around. Scooters are a popular way to move through Bali, and in Canggu they also fill the road.

In January 2026, CNBC Indonesia reported that Canggu traffic now frustrates foreign visitors, who feel they waste time just crossing town. Here’s how far you can get on foot from Aster.

What “walkable” actually means in Batu Bolong

Listings put Batu Bolong Beach 0.7 to 0.9 km from Aster and Echo Beach 0.7 to 1 km. Expect a 7 to 12 minute walk to Echo Beach, depending on your route and pace, and about 9 minutes to Canggu Beach.

For food and coffee, listings place Desa Kitsune, The Avocado Factory and Penny Lane at 2 to 5 minutes.

Aster’s own Surrounding page puts Old Man’s and Love Anchor Market within easy reach. La Brisa sits right on Echo Beach, so that walk is about the same. Plan on 10 minutes to the sand and you’ll rarely be wrong.

Three things a map won’t tell you

  • The footpath matters more than the distance. Canggu’s lanes are narrow, and where pavement exists, vehicles often end up using it too. Expect to share the road with scooters. Walking works best early in the morning and after 4 p.m. Midday heat and the late rush are when a scooter starts to look tempting.
  • The last 100 meters are quiet, and dark. Aster sits in a side lane, one step off the main road, in a quiet pocket of Canggu. One recent guest noted no construction or road noise outside the windows. The lane gets dark at night, though, and another guest mentioned using a flashlight, so keep your phone light handy.
  • Walking home saves more than the rental fee. You also never have to decide who’s fit to ride after sunset drinks at the beach.

One day on foot, start to finish

Walk to Batu Bolong Beach early, before the day heats up. Come back for breakfast and a few hours of work. Swim in the rooftop pool when the afternoon gets hot. Around 4 p.m., walk to Old Man’s or La Brisa for sunset, then stroll home along the lane with nothing to park.

On a slower day, walk to Love Anchor Market for local vendors, food stalls and, on weekends, community events.

Which Aster apartment suits a walking stay

  • Mezzanine Premier. A one-bedroom with a mezzanine level on the second floor, plus a living room, kitchen and bathroom. It suits couples and solo travelers.
  • Mezzanine Premium. A two-level mezzanine layout that maximizes living space. That extra room helps on a stay of a month or longer.
  • Three Bedroom Suite. Two floors: a master bedroom with en-suite, open kitchen, living room and private balcony downstairs, and two more bedrooms upstairs. It sleeps up to six, so a group of friends or a family can walk to the beach together instead of needing three scooters.

Every unit has a fully equipped kitchen. When you want a day without leaving the building, the rooftop pool, gym, sauna, spa and restaurant are on site.

Batu Bolong or the next neighborhood?

Berawa Beach is about 2.9 km from Aster, so getting there from Batu Bolong usually means a ride. Batu Bolong, Canggu, packs beach, cafes and market into a smaller radius.

Shops, restaurants and cafes line its main street, Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, and the strip gets lively after dark. Staying one lane back keeps all of it within walking distance.

Before you book anywhere in Canggu, ask about construction nearby. The area is building fast, and one Aster guest wrote that they knew about nearby works in advance and it didn’t affect their stay. Ask us the same question.

Quick answers before you book

  • Can you live in Batu Bolong without a scooter? For daily life, yes: beach, cafes, market and gym are all on foot.
  • For the airport, plan differently. Aster is about 19 kilometers from Ngurah Rai Airport, and one local travel guide puts the drive anywhere from 45 minutes to over 2 hours depending on traffic. Book a driver off-peak and give yourself a buffer.
  • Is it quiet? The lane is calm, and the lively strip is a short walk away. That mix is the appeal.
  • Can I stay longer than a holiday? Yes. Aster rents by the day, week or month, with long-term options, so a test week can grow into a longer base.

If a walkable Canggu sounds like your kind of pace, compare the layouts on Aster Apartment’s room pages and pick the Batu Bolong apartment that fits how long you’re staying.
